Zegul Kayaks

The comprehensive range of the impeccably made Zegul Kayaks from Swedish designer Johan Wirsen have arrived. Constructed with a cutting edge aerospace infused carbon aramide hull, finished with craftsman like care & attention to detail. Click HERE to see the laminate processes for the Zegul boats, a process which requires huge capital infrastructure & produces ultra-strong boats with a superb uniform finish. These boats are designed into niches which they fill with aplomb, with very specific design briefs, aimed at ambitious paddlers looking to grow their skills in a boat they'll have forever. We're proud to add the new Zegul 520 & the Zegul 520 LV, and the most eye-catching boat to hit the market since the Tahe Greenland, the Zegul Baidarka.

Zegul Baidarka

The original Baidarka kayaks were designed by the Aleutians, to go fast, cover ground with a low wind profile & provide a stable platform for hunting. Unlike the Greenland boats they were paddled regularly in rough water, so had hull designs which dealt with dynamic ocean states, while maintaining the all-important boat speed. The modern surf ski owes a lot to the lines of these indigenous boats, and we are very excited to have this revival kayak available for the first time in Australia, complete with the hugely distinctive lines of the original bifurcated bow, in a single piece. Zegul 550

The Zegul is a super fast and versatile touring kayak. Designed by Johan Wirsén, the creator of the Point65 XP, this boat shares some of the excellent features that made the XP a fast, high performance design, but with added sea attributes like a fuller bow (to prevent pearling in following seas) & a shallower keel line (to give a less twitchy initial stability). It has some very good reviews overseas commenting on the speed downwind, stability in genuinely big water, and the great handling of the Swede form hull. The Zegul is available in a light-packing expedition size (Zegul 550). The stern deck is significantly lower than the bow deck, and the hull features well-defined chines, that make the Zegul stable on a sea and effortless to turn without a rudder, however is now available as standard with a SmartTrack 270degree rudder. The high quality standard construction is with a vacuum infused carbon-kevlar lay-up with hybrid inner layer in the hull, also with an extra reinforced keel & seams, and a GRP deck. Hull and deck are joined with robust Kevlar tape. Click HERE to read a review of the Zegul 550. The Zegul is equipped with the best components on the market and this together with the high quality construction makes it a pure premium kayak.

Zegul 520, & Zegul 520 LV

When we first demo'd this essentially play-style kayak at the National Sea Kayak Symposium we were astonished at the response. The boat barely touched the sand over the weekend & was put through it's paces by paddlers with varying skills to pretty much all-round approval & enthusiasm. The only other boats we've seen with this response have been the Greenland T & the North Shore Atlantic, so we sensed that our own impressions about the qualities of the 520 were on the money, that it promised a solid handling, manoeuvrable sea boat with a little more cruising speed than that normally associated with your typical play boat. The 520 comes in two sizes, the LV suited to paddlers up to about 85kg, & the standard size for paddlers in the 80kg plus weight range, or lighter paddlers looking to use the boat for touring as well as play. It features a reinforced V keel which provides the glide, with solid hard chined stability on edge to deal with the rough stuff. A superb all-round boat, with a little more speed to burn than the British boats of the genre, and a very predictable feel on dynamic water. Red a review of the Zegul 520 HERE.
