The Rockpool Taran 18

A super fast touring or fitness boat developed by Rockpool to break records. The Taran has already set new speed records for the circumnavigation of both the UK and the Ireland, both of which are considered to be holy grails in British kayaking for their committing distance & varied & challenging sea conditions. The boat has been used in Australia on several fast Bass Strait crossings, and on Rob, Chris & Mark's North Reef Expedition and the 117km One Degree South Paddle. The Taran has displayed a cruising pace above 9.5kmh, as well as the sort of super-sea manners you associate with Rockpool designs. With handling characteristics similar to a normal sea kayak, but with the modern plumb bow now standard on surf skis & fast racing kayaks, once again it seems Rockpool have come up with an innovative & ground-breaking expedition sea kayak. With radical good looks, the Taran breaks with convention to prove that a fast boat can also be stable in rough water & fun to paddle. The video below gives a few hints at the explosive downwind nature of the Rockpool Taran 18, an X-factor unique to the world of touring sea kayaks.

The Rockpool Taran 16

The shorter sibling of the iconic Taran 18, more manoeuvrable, a little lighter & only ever so slightly slower on the flat. Rockpool describe the '16' as so similar to the 18 in surf, speed & stability, but it fits in the garage better! Built to the same specs as the Taran 18 as far as the seat & ergonomics, with a little more rocker. Essentially a more nimble, easier boat to close quarter, and less boat to put on top of the car. The video below demonstrates just how effective this boat is at running on a developed sea.
